MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Mission celebrated the first anniversary of its very own fire-based Emergency Medical Services program.

The program launched in April 2024 with a commitment to bringing life-saving care to residents of Mission.

"We average about 6,600 calls in a year that we have been able to account for. We're tracking those numbers very well and we're very proud and what we have been able to accomplish in that one year," said Mission Fire Chief Michael Silva.

Since the program launched, the program has increased its force to enhance emergency responses.

"We've been able to have our staff up to 25 paramedics, approximately 33 EMTs, and we have about eight advanced EMTs," Silva continued. "There is no doubt that this program is going to continue to rise and excel. Our quality of care is is exceptional, and we just ask the community for its continued support."
