MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Mission Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to place its superintendent on paid administrative leave during a special meeting Monday.

Carol Perez, Superintendent of Schools for Mission CISD, objected to the deliberations about her employment being discussed in closed session. The board, however, stated it is entitled to receive legal advice in closed session.

After nearly two hours in executive session, the board voted to seek direct legal council to negotiate a separation agreement with superintendent Perez and place her on paid administrative leave effective immediately.

All but two board members voted in favor of the motion to place Perez on administrative leave. One board member voted not to and another abstained from voting.

It was not made clear why the board wants to cut ties with Perez.

Sharon Roberts will serve as the district's acting superintendent until an interim superintended can fill the position.

This comes almost a year after questions about Perez's contract with the district began to surface.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mission CISD approved a nearly 10-year contract with Perez in 2020. CBS4 News asked attorneys at the time and they all came to the same conclusion about her contract, it is legal.
