MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Mission Consolidated Independent School District was presented with a grant on Thursday to launch a health care program.
The grant was presented by Workforce Solutions to help Mission CISD establish a program that provides students with the opportunity to learn about health care basics and gain real-world experience at two Valley hospitals — Mission Regional and Rio Grande Regional.
"A lot of times, employers are looking for people who have experience," said Workforce Solutions CEO Francisco Almaraz. "It's a win-win for everyone. The students gain experience and the employers gain the workforce that they need."
The health care program is expected to serve 120 certified high school students enrolled in health science programs across Mission High School and Mission Veterans High School over the next year.
