BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The body of a fisherman who was missing in the Brownsville Ship Channel was recovered this afternoon, the United States Coast Guard announced.
According to a spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard, a company that was hired to recover the boat that capsized over the weekend came across the body during their search. The spokesperson noted that the recovery took place near the Jaime Zapata Boat Ramp.
The Brownsville Fore Department, U.S. Coast Guard and Texas Parks and Wildlife were active in this recovery.
The identity of the shrimper who was missing for days remains unknown.
However, at the time of his disappearance, he was described as a 6-foot-tall man who weighed approximately 240 pounds and was last seen wearing black shorts and a blue shirt.
At approximately 6:59 a.m. Saturday, the Coast Guard received a call of a shrimp boat sinking near the LNG location in Port of Brownsville.
The shrimp boat had two passengers on board. One passenger was rescued, who let authorities know of the second passenger who was aboard and needed rescuing.
At 7:26 p.m. on Saturday Coast Guard crews suspended their search.
