Minors arrested in school basketball court shooting

SAN JUAN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Multiple minors were arrested for a physical altercation that turned into a shooting, according to the San Juan Police Department.

Police responded to the outdoor basketball courts of PSJA Carman Elementary School at 8:15 p.m. on Friday after one juvenile pulled out a handgun during an altercation.

Authorities say a witness at the scene followed the minors after the group left the basketball court in a vehicle.

While the group of juveniles were being pursued, one of them shot the handgun towards the witness who was following them.

No injuries were reported on the witness.

Investigation by the San Juan Police Criminal Investigation Division led to the execution of a search warrant.

Law enforcement recovered the handgun and ammunition that may have been used in the incident.

"The San Juan Police Department reassures the community that this was an isolated incident. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents, conducting thorough and expedited investigations to apprehend and remove offenders from our streets," Police Chief Sifuentes said.

Police did not disclose the identity of the juveniles.
