MERCEDES, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Benjamin Clinton, superintendent of schools with the Mercedes Independent School District, has resigned.
A motion to proceed with Clinton's resignation was approved Tuesday evening during a special school board meeting.
The resignation comes days after Clinton was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated.
Since his arrest, hours of school board sessions have been in place to discuss the next step for Clinton and his role with Mercedes ISD.
Every school board member present at the meeting voted in favor of Clinton's resignation and separation agreement.
ValleyCentral reached out to Mercedes ISD for further comment but have not heard back.
