Mercedes celebrates inaugural SkyFest kite festival

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The inaugural SkyFest in Mercedes is set to take place on Saturday, March 1.

This free event includes various kite competitions such as the altitude sprint, best kite, youth champion, and senior champion, with some requiring homemade kites.

Registration will be on the same day and also includes remote-controlled planes, a firework surprise at 2 p.m., live music from the South Austin Moonlighters, and food vendors.

In addition, B&S Kites from South Padre Island will be on hand to showcase larger kites.

The event will be held at the Mercedes Dome Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
