Meade: TxDOT workers are the true unsung heroes

MISSION, Texas – Alejandro ‘Alex” Meade has commented on this first year as a Texas transportation commissioner.

The Rio Grande Valley native was appointed to the Texas Transportation Commission by Gov. Greg Abbott a year ago. Meade, who also serves ass executive vice president for economic development at Texas Regional Bank, was the first Valley resident to be appointed to the TTC for almost 30 years.

Meade wrote on LinkedIn:

“Wow. I can’t believe it’s been one year since Gov. Greg Abbott appointed me to the Texas Transportation Commission and I attended my first Texas Department of Transportation meeting as a commissioner. 

Exactly 364 days ago, I committed to visiting all 25 TxDOT district offices and I’m happy to report that I just finished my last district visit – Atlanta, Texas. 

“So what did I learn from visiting every corner of the state? Texas is an economic powerhouse and every part of the state is growing. It is truly a great state in every sense of the word.

“But, I also learned that TxDOT employees are even greater. They are true unsung heroes. I know road construction can be a pain but believe me when I tell you, the state is not going to stop growing anytime soon. TxDOT employees wake up everyday to work hard and accommodate that growth in the safest way possible and for that, we owe them a debt of gratitude. Thank you.

“Looking forward to the next year of my term.”

A number of supporters commented on Meade’s comments. They included Daniel O. Rios, president at RRP Consulting Engineers. Rios said: “Your involvement throughout the State clearly shows your dedication to this great agency. Special thanks to Governor Abbott for appointing someone from the RGV.”

Maribel Bermudez, assistant engineering and public works director at City of Brownsville, Texas, commented: “Commissioner, I appreciate the value you hold regarding the hard work the men and women perform everyday to provide safe road passages to our Texas communities. It’s tough work out in the extreme Texas elements.”
