McDonnell: VTX1 remains steadfast in its commitment to serving South Texas

Reducing the digital gap in Cameron County and the Rio Grande Valley will yield numerous benefits for our communities.

This gap, often termed as the digital divide, delineates the chasm between those who possess access to the internet and digital devices, and those who lack such access. The provision of high-speed internet stands as a significant equalizer and enabler.

VTX1 has been an integral part of our communities since its inception in 1952, initially rendering phone services as Valley Telephone Cooperative to areas devoid of such amenities. Fast forward to the present day, VTX1 Internet has been instrumental in delivering high-speed internet services to locations where others have hesitated to venture. As we proudly proclaim, we possess the capability to undertake endeavors akin to those of larger entities, yet retain the nimbleness to address matters they overlook.

VTX1 remains steadfast in its commitment to serving South Texas. This collaboration between the public and private sectors represents the optimal approach to secure funding and ensure the comprehensive provision of affordable internet access to all the residents of Cameron County. Today marks the commencement of the first among several community groundbreaking events, a milestone we enthusiastically embrace.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed members of our board present here today – Dolly Villarreal, our former board president, and our current board president, Dr. Adelberto Garza. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in bolstering connectivity and enhancing the quality of life in our local communities.
