MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The city of McAllen is urging residents to be cautious of fraudulent contractors while trying to make repairs to their homes amidst the floods that affected parts of the Valley.

The city clarified that it does not contract with private businesses for storm-related repairs, nor does it request sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers or death certificates in connection with any repair services.

Residents should verify the legitimacy of any contractor before agreeing to services or providing personal information, the city stated.

Additionally, the city suggests avoiding upfront payments because reputable contractors will provide written estimates and structured payment plans.

Any suspicious activity can be reported to the McAllen Police Department at (956) 681-2000.
