McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen announced it will be waving building permits for home repairs caused by the recent flooding.

According to a news release from the city officials, the city will be waving building permit requirements for home repairs caused by flood damage.

The waiver will be in effect for 90 days, which will allow homeowners sufficient time to file insurance claims and begin any necessary repairs.

“Our priority is to assist our residents in recovering as quickly as possible,” said McAllen City Manager Isaac J. Tawil. “By waiving these fees for flood-related repairs, we hope to ease the burden for those affected.”

City officials state that residents can contact the City of McAllen's Permits and Inspections Department for guidance in qualifying repairs and make sure they comply with local building codes.

The news release details that general home repairs will not require a permit, but electrical and plumbing repairs do and must be performed by a licensed contractor.

City officials remind the public to report any damages caused by the heavy rainfall at the TDEM iSTAT Portal.
