1 week ago 40

The public will get a chance to hear from the five McAllen ISD school board candidates at a forum hosted by Futuro RGV in conjunction with South Texas College Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the STC Student Union Ballroom.

MISD Place 3 has Allena Cano and Robert Carreon running for the seat.

Place 7 has a three-way race between Roberto Haddad, Tiffany Ramos and Rojelio Aleman II.

The Monitor spoke with all five candidates regarding why those chose to run, their priorities and private school vouchers.

A member of Futuro RGV and a moderator solicited questions from news media and community members and made the final decision about which ones will be asked.

The questions will pertain to issues relevant to the school district.

Candidates will be asked questions in ballot order and have 1 1/2 minutes to answer.

The moderator will be able to ask follow-up questions and be allowed to provide additional time to a candidate if they are mentioned by an opponent.

Candidates will have two minutes for closing statements.

Futuro RGV will livestream the forum on their Facebook page and post a recording of it on their website.

Early voting starts on April 22 and runs through April 29 with Election Day on May 3.
