MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — McAllen city officials on Monday held a ribbon-cutting for the Northwest Blueline Regional Detention Facility.

According to the city, the project is aimed at reducing flooding and improving stormwater management in the region.

"The region during 2018 did experience some localized flooding, and so this was an area that we decided to have a project in. Citizens of McAllen voted on the bond, and they said that this was a much-needed project. So we listened to them, and we executed this project," said City Engineer Eduardo Mendoza.

The project is located at 2800 Oxford Avenue and adds a new stormwater detention facility with space to hold about 97,000 cubic yards of runoff.

It is the last of the 18 designated projects of the 2018 $22 million Bond Election Drainage Improvement Projects, coming in at a project cost of $1,520,810.
