MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen Public Library was chosen as one of over 70 libraries in Texas to be awarded the Summer at the Library Grant.
The $7,200 grant, presented by the Texas Library Association, will assist the McAllen Public Library and its mission to keep the community engaged all summer long with literacy resources and events.
"All of that money will be reinvested into the Summer Reading Challenge," said McAllen Public Library Director Kate Horan. "It's so important to keep children and teens reading over the summer."
The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all ages. Those who complete the challenge will receive an invitation to a finale party to celebrate their success.
"It's a great way to end summer," Horan continued.
The Summer Reading Challenge runs through July 13 across all three McAllen Public Library locations.
- Main Library, 4001 N. 23rd St.
- Lark Branch, 2601 Lark Ave.
- Palm View Branch, 3401 Jordan Ave.
A calendar of additional library summer programs can be found on the McAllen Public Library website.
