McAllen Police, TxDOT participate in Click It or Ticket campaign

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — McAllen Police Department, the Texas Department of Transportation, and other Hidalgo County law enforcement agencies will be participating in the “Click It or Ticket” Campaign.

The campaign, according to McAllen police, will run from Monday, May 19, through Sunday, June 1, to promote safe driving and enforcement efforts. 

The department said it will have officers on regular and overtime status during this time, looking for drivers and passengers who are not using seat belts, including drivers who do not secure children in a child safety seat.

State law requires drivers and all passengers in a vehicle to be secured by a safety belt. Children younger than 8 must be in a child safety seat or booster seat unless they are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall.

Seat belts are the most important and effective step drivers can take to prevent being injured or killed in a traffic crash, according to state data.
