MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos and Tampico Mayor Mónica Villareal met Monday to discuss collaboration and investment opportunities.
At the gathering, Mayor Villalobos explained how the city has a location beneficial for business investments, a robust retail sector, a growing industrial base, and access to cross-border trade with Mexico, according to a press release.

In November 2024, McAllen and Tampico joined in a city friendship agreement: a partnership that allows the development of initiatives benefiting the signing communities.
“McAllen is committed to strengthening our international partnerships and expanding economic opportunities,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos. “We look forward to welcoming Tampico’s business community and working to build lasting relationships which will benefit both sides of the border.”
City Manager Isaac J. Tawil also highlighted the importance of the gathering.
“By connecting with Tampico’s entrepreneurs and business leaders, we are opening the door to new opportunities which will drive growth, create jobs, and reinforce McAllen’s position as a leader in regional economic development," said Tawil.
Mayor Villalobos and Mayor Villareal agreed that the partnership between the two cities is a key step in promoting mutual prosperity, international commerce, and trade, according to a press release.
