The McAllen man identified as the driver in a weekend fatal crash that killed two men was speeding and ran “multiple” red lights after taking “17 shots” prior to the crash.

Dionicio Luna Aguirre, 40, is accused of killing 54-year-old McAllen resident Juan Carlos and 20-year-old Pasadena resident Giancarlo Humberto Corriabustos after crashing into them at a high rate of speed, according to a probable cause affidavit.

He’s been charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter following his arraignment on Thursday.

Last Saturday, McAllen police responded to a car crash in the 4000 block of N. 2nd Street involving a white 2016 Chevrolet Silverado occupied by Aguirre and Corriabustos, and a white 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Perez.

According to the affidavit, the crash was captured on the city of McAllen’s Milestone video surveillance system.

“The footage shows Mr. Aguirre traveling northbound on N. 2nd Street at a high rate of speed,” the affidavit said. “He entered the intersection on Nolana Avenue against a red traffic signal and struck Mr. Perez’s vehicle, which was traveling westbound on Nolana Avenue with a green light signal.”

Both Corriabustos and Perez died at the scene.

The affidavit goes on to say that Aguirre disregarded multiple red traffic signals at various intersections while speeding before crashing into Perez.

One officer at the scene saw Aguirre exit the driver’s side door and when they approached Aguirre, they smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.

Aguirre was then taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

It was there that Aguirre allegedly told the hospital staff that he had “17 shots,” according to the affidavit.

“Hospital staff also indicated that Mr. Aguirre tested positive for cocaine, THC and amphetamines,” the document said.

Authorities reviewed Corriabustos’ social media which revealed he and Aguirre consuming alcoholic beverages at a bar in downtown McAllen before the crash.

Court records show that Aguirre has a history of driving while intoxicated as he’s had three prior cases in 2013, 2011 and 2010.

Aguirre was also part of a public sex scandal in August of last year where an adult male performer had sex at a McAllen business located in the 1700 block of Dallas Avenue.

He remains held in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center on a total of $600,000 in bonds.
