McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A McAllen resident pleaded guilty to possessing meth with the intent to distribute, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
An investigation revealed Michael Luera, 34, was selling methamphetamine across the Rio Grande Valley.
On Dec. 12, 2024, Luera was encountered during a traffic stop.
According to the DOJ, the traffic stop happened shortly after he sold half a pound of meth to a customer.
During the traffic stop, a K-9 unit alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, leading authorities to find approximately 2.2 grams of meth.
Multiple bags with U.S. currency and a loaded firearm were also discovered.
Luera faces up to life in prison and a possible $10 million fine.
His sentencing is set for Aug. 14.
He will remain in custody pending his sentencing.
