MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — McAllen ISD announced it now offering a free diploma completion program for young adults.
The Step-up Program is designed for adults, 18 to 26, who left school before graduating.
The program accommodates flexible scheduling, permitting students to attend in the morning or afternoon, Monday through Friday, and to proceed at their own pace.
The program plans to launch with about 50 students early this fall. Students will be housed separately at Lamar Academy and attend four-hour sessions. Their specific schedule will be determined by the credits they lack and their availability.
The district will assist students in reviewing transcripts, identifying missing credits, and enrolling in the courses they need.
Students do not need to have attended McAllen ISD schools. Whether young adults are looking for a better job or want to go to college, the Step-up Program can get them on their way.
The Step-up Program is funded through the state’s Average Daily Attendance Program, which is calculated through student attendance.
