MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen is honoring National Travel and Tourism Week.
City leaders gathered on Thursday morning to discuss the importance of travel and tourism to McAllen's economy.
One highlight mentioned was the MXLAN festival happening this weekend.
"MXLAN is the festival of festivals when it comes to culture and arts," said Isaac Tawil, McAllen City Manager.
Tawil says that MXLAN and National Travel and Tourism Week pair perfectly to bring travelers to McAllen to enjoy the event.
"We've got people coming in from all over the country... supporting our hoteliers, supporting local retail food," Tawil said. "When you bring it all together — the excitement, the culture, the atmosphere — It's so much fun and so important in driving what we think is just a fun part of our economy."
