McAllen High Mariachi Oro wins 8th state title

McALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The McAllen High Mariachi Oro won the state championship for Class 5A at the Texas Association of Mariachi Educators State Championships.

The group performed in San Antonio on Friday evening, where they received its eighth state title.

The mariachi students will be returning to the Valley at 5:30 this afternoon. They’ll be greeted at the high school along Bulldog Drive, near the big letter “M.”

Other Rio Grande Valley high schools that performed at the championships are the following:

• Rio Grande City High School
• Roma High School
• Sharyland Pioneer High School
• Weslaco East High School
