McAllen finishes Daffodil Ave. expansion and drainage

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The city of McAllen has wrapped up construction on Daffodil Avenue between Ware and Taylor Roads.

The project expanded the portion of the road to four lanes and added some major drainage improvements to the area.

Omar Quintanilla with the city of McAllen said drivers can now expect lighter traffic and less flooding in their neighborhood.

“What this does is that it helps with mobility," Quintanilla said. "East-west mobility is something that, in the city of McAllen, we’ve been concentrating on trying to get people moving faster.”

People living in the area say they are already seeing a difference.

"About four years ago, we experienced a lot of rain, and the street, this neighborhood, got really, really flooded because of the drainage. Now that they've expanded the drainage, it has been way better for the neighborhood here," said Lizet Resendes, a Daffodil Avenue resident.

The project took several years to complete with a price tag of over $5,500,000 in tax dollars.
