McAllen, Brownsville ranked in top 100 places to live in the U.S. survey

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen and Brownsville were ranked in the Top 150 Best Places to Live in the U.S., according to a survey conducted by U.S. News and World Report.

U.S. News and World Report's methodology for this survey consists of four factors: good value, being a desirable place to live, a strong job market and high quality of life.

The City of McAllen is ranked #48 out of 150 cities, scoring 6.6 for quality of life, 7.6 for value and 6.4 as the overall score.

The City of Brownsville was ranked #87 out of 150, scoring 6.2 for quality of life, 7.7 for value and 6.2 as the overall score.

According to the U.S. News and World Center, McAllen is known as a major center for retail, international trade, tourism and manufacturing. It also has an abundance of medical facilities and a bicultural community.

The City of Brownsville is widely known for its blend of Mexican and Texan culture. The survey states it is as easy to find authentic mole sauce as it is to find quality Texas sirloin. The Port of Brownville is also a primary trade and transportation hub for South Texas.

Many locals know Brownsville for its proximity to South Padre Island's beautiful beaches and the most recent tourist attraction, SpaceX.

Brownsville is also known for its historic and cultural sites such as the Palo Alto Battlefield and buildings that were built during the Mexican-American war, which are found at UTRGV/TSC campuses and Downtown Brownsville.
