McAllen announces death of Assistant City Manager

MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen announced the death of its Assistant City Manager, Joe Vera.

Vera is remembered for his leadership and passion of strengthening McAllen into a hub of culture and community.

In his 11 years of working with the City of McAllen, Vera oversaw several departments and played a key role in coordinating the McAllen Holiday Parade.

Outside of his role as Assistant City Manager, Vera was involved in community service.

Vera contributed to community organizations including United Way, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lions Club, Boy Scouts and 4-H.

"Joe Vera's legacy is etched into the very fabric of McAllen," the city announced. "His vision and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on our city."
