Man who drowned in La Villa canal identified

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who drowned Wednesday in La Villa.

Ramon Rivera III, 40, died from drowning, and his death was ruled accidental by a medical examiner. The sheriff's office news release said an autopsy was conducted earlier today.

The incident took place north of State Highway 107 on FM 1425 in La Villa, where a witness reported that while fishing with a friend at the canal, River appeared to have suffered a seizure and fell off a bridge and into the water. 

The sheriff's office said no further actions will be taken in this case.
