Man sentenced to federal prison after 40 videos of child porn found on devices

BROWNSVILLE, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A 33-year-old man from Mexico was sentenced to federal prison for possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

Jun Francisco Meza-Chavez pleaded guilty on Sept. 5, 2023.

In May 2022, an investigation began into the BitTorrent network, where investigators were able to identify the IP addresses of people sharing child pornography.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, one of the IP addresses was linked to Meza-Chavez.

On Oct. 13, 2022, authorities executed a search warrant at Meza Chavez's residence where they seized numerous electronic devices, capable of storing child pornography.

A forensic analysis revealed there were 40 videos and 11 images of child pornography on the devices.

U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera sentenced Meza-Chavez to eight years in federal prison and 20 years of supervised release.

Additionally at the hearing, the court ordered $45,000 in restitution to be paid to the victims.

Meza-Chavez is also ordered to register as a sex offender and has to comply with numerous requirements designed to restrict his access to the internet and children.

Meza-Chavez is pending his transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
