SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man reportedly jumped off the Queen Isabella Causeway in an attempt to escape police, a video shows.
Videos circulating on social media show the man running away from police before jumping off the bridge. The man was seen wearing a plaid shirt, unbuttoned, with jeans.
An Air and Marine Operations spokesperson told ValleyCentral the South Padre Island Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the man's vehicle, which led to a pursuit.
While on a foot-chase, the man jumped and the Coast Guard put out a distress for his rescue. Air and Marine Operations were the first to respond to the scene.
The United States Coast Guard was the second agency to arrive.
The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after his jump and was found with a few abrasions clinging to a pillar, the AMO spokesperson added.
While in recovery, he gave authorities a false name and is now in SPI PD custody.
Authorities have not released the charges the man is facing or his identity.
