Man dies after hitting head on driveway, attacking deputies

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man who witnesses say was continually striking his head against a concrete driveway.

A news release from the sheriff's office stated that at 11:57 p.m. on Tuesday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call at the 6900 block of Sigley Drive in Edinburg.

Witnesses reported a man jumping fences and breaking neighbors' windows in addition to repeatedly striking his head against the concrete driveway.

When deputies arrived, they found the 34-year-old man lying on the driveway of 6915 Playa Del Rey in Edinburg with visible head injuries.

Deputies immediately requested Emergency Medical Services to the scene.

When EMS arrived, they placed the man inside the ambulance for medical evaluation. While being treated, the man became combative, exited the ambulance, and assaulted three deputies, according to the release.

The deputies subdued the man and returned him to the ambulance.

While on the way to the hospital, regardless of life-saving efforts, the man’s condition
deteriorated, and he was pronounced dead.

This is an active investigation, and the Texas Rangers have been asked to assist.
