WILLACY COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man was arrested on DWI charges after crashing into an apartment building while asleep at the wheel, authorities say.
Guadalupe Hernandez IV, 25, was found asleep at the wheel after crashing into the bedroom window of an apartment complex in Raymondville. The room he crashed into was occupied by two children who were sleeping. Authorities say they were not hurt in the incident.
When authorities arrived at the location at 6:14 a.m. Sunday they found Hernandez behind the wheel showing signs of intoxication.
Sheriff Deputies knocked on the window until Hernandez woke up, and when asked if he knew where he was, he stated he believed that he was in Lasara. Sheriff Deputies observed the vehicle in drive, placed the vehicle in park, shut off the vehicle and took the keys from the ignition.
Authorities say Hernandez admitted to drinking. Hernandez then performed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on the results of the tests, the Deputy took Hernandez IV into custody and transported him to the Willacy County Sheriff’s Office Jail, where he agreed to provide a sample of his breath.
Hernandez's blood alcohol concentration level was over the legal limit 0.08%, according to the Sheriff's Office.
He was booked into the Willacy County Jail on charges of Driving While Intoxicated and two counts of Endangering a Child.
