MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One person is in custody for targeting a federal aircraft with a laser.
Luis Antonio Ochoa-Soliz, admitted to pointing a laser device at a U.S. Border Patrol aircraft near Mission on Monday.
U.S. Border Patrol said the laser was located approximately five miles from the McAllen International Airport.
"The act of shining a laser at an aircraft is not only reckless, but it also endangers the lives of those on board and the safety of our nation's airspace," said RGV Sector Chief Gloria I. Chavez.
Ochoa-Soliz was later found during a traffic stop with assistance from the Mission Police Department.
During the traffic stop, Border Patrol agents determined Ochoa-Soliz to be an undocumented immigrant from Mexico.
He was taken into custody by Mission police and charged with Illumination of Aircraft by Intense Light.
The case remains under federal investigation.
