EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A man is being charged with aggravated assault for reportedly shooting at Hidalgo County deputies during an investigation, authorities say.
Alex Peña, 45, is being charged with one count of deadly conduct, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and five counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, according to a news release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, authorities say they responded to shots fired at a residence located at the 25000 block of Brushline Road in rural Edinburg.
At the scene, deputies say a man told them his father-in-law, identified as Peña, had fired multiple shots towards him and his wife.
While at the scene, authorities say they heard additional gunshots coming from a nearby residence.

Deputies say Peña fired several rounds towards them from inside the home. Moments later, Peña came out of the house was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Saturday night HSCO investigators executed an evidentiary search warrant at the suspect's home, where they say they found several firearms, high capacity magazines, spent casings and live rounds of various calibers.
The original charges against Peña were upgraded to include one count of deadly conduct, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and five counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.
Peña is currently booked at the Hidalgo County jail.
