A 69-year-old Edinburg man is under arrest after hitting a 13-year-old girl who was attempting to cross a street while on her way to B.L. Garza Middle School.

The incident happened at 10:01 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of North McColl Road and West Schunior Road in Edinburg.

Responding police learned that the student had been hit by a gray SUV traveling southbound as she tried to cross the street to get to school, police said in a news release.

“A witness at the scene rendered immediate aid and transported the student to the school, where staff promptly contacted emergency services,” the release stated.

The child was taken to a hospital and is being treated for injuries that are not life threatening.

A second witness was able to provide police with the vehicle’s license plate and authorities were able to swiftly track down and arrest Dennis Bullard, according to the release.

He is charged with collision involving serious bodily injury and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
