MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council on Tuesday celebrated the graduation of 25 police cadets who will serve communities throughout the region.
The new officers will serve police departments in Peñitas, San Juan, and Mission. The graduates said they're looking forward to entering the police force and serving their communities.
"Feels ecstatic, it's been a long six-month journey. We went through rigorous training from top to bottom. We're here to serve the public; we are public servants," said Officer Mauricio Garza, Mission Police Department.
This was the 228th graduating class for the LRGVDC. In addition to police officers, a fire marshal was also in the graduating class.
The LRGVDC said its program is open to anyone in the RGV looking to enter law enforcement.
