Low-cost veterinary clinic offers affordable pet care in Donna

2 weeks ago 220

Yaqui Animal Rescue held a large low-cost veterinary clinic, offering spay, neuter, vaccination, and microchip services for 200 local pets at Donna High School.

The clinic, a collaborative effort between Donna North High School and Yaqui Animal Rescue, featured the expertise of five veterinarians, ten veterinary technicians, twenty students, and twenty volunteers. The clinic aimed to provide affordable veterinary care, with services costing $35 or less, compared to the typical $300 to $500 at regular clinics.

In early 2024, discussions began with the Donna North Veterinary Science Program to create a mobile clinic serving underserved communities. This initiative will offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, wellness exams, vaccinations, and microchipping services.

To support the mobile clinic, Donna North has acquired spay and neuter medical equipment, allowing students to gain hands-on veterinary experience while working with veterinarians nationwide.

Yaqui Animal Rescue recruited veterinarians and veterinary technicians, acquired additional partners, secured funding for remaining supplies, and eventually expanded services.

Since April 2025, the program has hosted three clinics, successfully spaying or neutering 235 pets.

The clinic is taking place this weekend, starting at 7:00 AM at Donna North High School.

Judge Richard Cortez, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, and Commissioner David Fuentes are expected to attend the event, highlighting its significance to the community.

The clinic represents a significant step forward in providing accessible veterinary care to the community, with the involvement of local students and professionals enhancing its impact.
