Lots of rainfall across the Valley Wednesday morning: Could we see more?

3 weeks ago 53

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Happy Wednesday! There was a lot of rainfall across parts of the Valley earlier today and some areas where little to no rain fell. So what happened?

Before we get to the synopsis, let's first talk about rainfall amounts. Radar estimates that 3-5 inches fell across Starr County, where totals elsewhere ranged from none to about a quarter of an inch.

Most storms stayed under severe criteria (a severe storm being defined as 1 inch sized hail or quarter sized and 60mph wind gusts) but there was a lot of lightning, thunder and heavy rain.

Now, back to what happened.

Just like in the forecast we had yesterday, an area of low pressure moved across the state of Texas from Tuesday to Wednesday. This, combined with a ton of moisture in the atmosphere, created a line of thunderstorms that moved through the Valley.

Rain coverage and intensity have since dropped off, but there's still a 20% chance, an isolated shower threat, for additional showers and thunderstorms throughout the rest of this Wednesday.

Keep the raingear on standby because we have a 20% all week long. It won't be a washout by any means, but given the amount of available moisture in the atmosphere, additional showers that produce heavy rain, especially in those areas that have already seen a lot of rain, minor flooding concerns are likely.

Other hazards should stay under severe limits but along with the heavy rain/flooding potential look for thunder, lightning and some gusty winds in any/all storm.

Temperature-wise, we're looking at mid-90s to the low 100s with feels-like temperatures higher. This forecast remains consistent throughout the entire 7-day forecast.
