HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A local barbecue joint is stepping in to support Johnny's True Value after the hardware shop was destroyed last week in an early morning blaze.
Johnny's True Value in Harlingen was declared a total loss, leaving a community devastated but ready to help.
SMOKE: Texas BBQ and Watering Hole has decided to pay it forward by hosting a barbecue fundraiser.
"When Johnny’s burned, it wasn’t just a building that burned, it was an institution. So much history and so many memories were made in Johnny’s," SMOKE stated. "Johnny's also had the employees willing to go above and beyond for their customers."
Barbecue plates will be sold for $12 each and will include a smoked chicken leg quarter, rice, charro beans, and trimmings.
The fundraiser will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, at SMOKE, located at 1600 W. Harrison Ave, STE A.
Barbecue plates will be available throughout the day until they are sold out.
All proceeds from the barbecue fundraiser will go directly to the employees of Johnny's True Value.
