HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Rotary Club of Harlingen is partnering with Loaves and Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley to host a community food drive.
Loaves and Fishes, a non-profit organization, is accepting food pantry donations throughout the week at their Harlingen location.
Victor Rivera, president of the Rotary Club of Harlingen and Executive Director of Loaves and Fishes, says the food pantry has seen a decline in inventory over the past several weeks.
Since putting the word out about food donations on social media, Rivera is now seeing the pantry fill up slowly but surely.
"We're starting to see an uptick, because people are donating from the community, especially the club," Rivera said.
Loaves and Fishes is now accepting canned foods, non-perishable items, cereals, and soup items.
"The need for food never stops. We continue to look for other resources to replenish our pantry, so this is going to be an ongoing initiative," Rivera continued.
Donations can be dropped off weekly, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 5 p.m.
Pick-up donations can be arranged by contacting Loaves and Fishes Harlingen at (956) 423-1014.
