Lasara man, 20, dies in fatal Willacy County one-vehicle crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal one-vehicle rollover crash in Willacy County that left a 20-year-old Lasara man dead.

In a news release, DPS said the crash happened Tuesday at approximately 9:52 p.m. on 6th Street west of FM 1015 in Lasara.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Erik Daniel Perez II was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette westbound on 6th Street when he lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed.

He veered off the roadway and into a ditch, according to the release.

“The Chevrolet traveled on a left-side skid and struck a utility pole on the driver’s side door, then overturned onto its left and top side, where the driver was ejected from the Chevrolet,” the release stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
