LA JOYA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The La Joya Independent School District is emphasizing its safety campaign ahead of the 2025-2026 school year.
District police are being proactive in training students across all La Joya schools with the Standard Response Protocol (SPR) in case of an emergency.
"While training our kids, we have officers going to every campus and teaching them the protocols and what can happen," said Leonardo Sanchez, La Joya ISD Police Chief.
Sanchez says the training can be utilized in scenarios involving school threats or hoaxes.
"Every campus is subject to doing these trainings throughout the month. We do different trainings, like lockdowns, secures, shelter in place," Sanchez said.
The safety campaign is also being practiced outside of school and into the community to keep families informed about school safety.
"We just started a video campaign so we can spread out, so our parents can understand the standard response protocol," Sanchez continued. "We're hoping to communicate back to them so we can teach them the protocols."
