La Joya ISD investigates inappropriate communication between teacher, student

LA JOYA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The La Joya Independent School District is investigating a report of inappropriate communication between a teacher and a student, the district told ValleyCentral Wednesday.

La Joya ISD stated that the student's parents have been informed of the situation, and the teacher under investigation has been placed on leave.

The district did not name the teacher who is being investigated, nor any specifics on the ways that the educator and student communicated.

La Joya ISD stated that it has followed all state and local policies, including making appropriate reports with Child Protective Services guidelines.

"We take this situation extremely seriously, and the safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority," the district stated.

Officials with La Joya ISD say that if their investigation leads to the suspicion of a criminal offense, then the case will be referred to the District Attorney's office.

"The District will take the appropriate action against the teacher even if the conduct does not rise to the level of a crime," the district assured.
