La Joya ISD extends superintendent’s contract through 2030

LA JOYA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — La Joya Independent School District board members unanimously voted on Monday to extend the contract of Superintendent Dr. Marcey Sorensen through 2030.

Board President Julian Alvarez III said the evaluation is an important step in reinforcing the district’s focus on strong leadership.

“I am grateful to Dr. Sorensen and excited that we will be working together for the next five years. We are very appreciative of the leadership she has demonstrated here in our great district. I am confident that under her leadership, we will continue to succeed,” said Alvarez. 

Sorensen joined La Joya ISD in February 2024 and has led major initiatives, including the development of the five-year strategic plan, balancing the budget, implementing high-quality instructional materials, and conducting a thorough audit of both the financial systems and special education services.

Sorensen said she is honored by the Board’s confidence and their commitment to working alongside her and her team.
