LA FERIA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — On Saturday, you can find Jorge Rodriguez grilling at his home in La Feria.
He lives right across from Main Street, which was completely flooded after Thursday's storm. It took two days for the water to recede on Main Street.
"It hasn't drained like it used to," said Rodriguez. "We've had instances before, it would take 24 hours. Now it's taken 48 hours."
He said it was a bad storm and had to catch a school bus to get home that night. Rodriguez said this time around, it was a close call for his home. The water level is reaching closer to his front doorstep
"It got high in this area here," he said, pointing at where the water reached his home. "It's never come up this high before, you couldn't see this plant. It was covered up to here. That was surprising. We are lucky this time."
On Saturday, some businesses had signs that read "Closed". On Sunday, some were still cleaning up after the storm damage to open back up as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez said there needs to be a better way to drain the water.
"You need to be prepared when heavy rains come in," said Rodriguez. "Because you are not going to get out."
