A La Blanca man was arrested over the weekend on a murder charge after allegedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend outside a bar in Alamo.

Jorge Enrique Saldana-Gonzalez, 44, is charged with murder for the death of Ana Maria Davila.

At about 10:55 p.m. on Saturday, Alamo police were dispatched to Sandra’s Bar located at 111 North 7th Street in regards to an unresponsive woman.

Once there, police observed two men by a vehicle and a crying woman, later identified as Margareth Almonte Mariguez, holding another woman, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Mariguez told police that she saw Davila walking out of the bar with her ex-boyfriend to talk and later found Davila outside on the ground. The woman was unresponsive.

Davila was observed to have two gunshot wounds on her upper torso and chest, according to the document.

A review of the video footage obtained by police showed the suspect walking out of the bar with Davila. Police made contact with Mariguez who then identified the suspect as Saldana-Gonzalez.

“(Mariguez) stated that a female approached her and mentioned that she heard gunshots and that (Davila) was on the floor,” the affidavit said. “(Mariguez) stated that once she saw (Davila) that the defendant had left the location.”

Another witness described Saldana-Gonzalez’s vehicle as a gray Ford F-150 with a bed cover and a LED light on the roof.

Investigators were able to confirm this was the vehicle Saldana-Gonzalez was in and located it at 10726 Hernandez Drive in Edinburg. Inside the residence was Saldana-Gonzalez who was then placed under arrest.

At the Alamo Police Department, investigators interviewed Saldana-Gonzalez who stated that he went to Sandra’s Bar and saw Davila hugging another man, which made him feel “hurt and angry,” so he told Davila to go outside to talk to him, according to the affidavit.

“(Saldana-Gonzalez) stated he was upset because he thought they were fixing the relationship and they both began to argue,” the affidavit said. “(Saldana-Gonzalez) stated he was hurt and it seemed easy due to him being mad.”

According to Saldana-Gonzalez, the first shot was an accident but not the second shot. He left the location after shooting Davila and got onto Business 83 and then turned northbound on Val Verde Road before throwing out the gun he used.

He said he wasn’t sure exactly where he threw the handgun but added that he was wearing the same clothes he had on when he shot Davila.

Saldana-Gonzalez remains jailed in the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.

It isn’t immediately clear whether he’s received a bond on the murder charge.
