Kristin Luckey announces candidacy for Texas House District 37

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Harlingen native Kristen Luckey announced on Wednesday her candidacy for Texas House District 37.

Luckey will run against incumbent Janie Lopez to secure the Republican seat in the next general election.

"I'm not a career politician. I'm a mom, a community leader, and someone who shows up, rolls up her sleeves, and gets things done," Luckey announced in her candidacy press release.

Luckey's campaign is centered on border protection, the regional water crisis, education, economic growth, supporting Veterans, and supporting children in foster care.

"I'm running because South Texas deserves a strong voice in Austin — someone who puts our values above political games and empty promises," she stated.

Texas House District 37 represents all of Willacy County and a majority of Cameron County.

Elections for the Texas House of Representatives will take place on Nov. 3, 2026.
