HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — With the population growth in Cameron County, combined with its economic growth, there is a need for housing.

Inside Valley Politics spoke with Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. about whether the need for housing can be handled with the recent ICE raids affecting labor.

Treviño says it will be tough, and there is no doubt that the current immigration policy has had an impact on the local economy.

"It has become commonplace to hear from business owners that they've had employees not return to work or are afraid to go to work. We've heard about companies in the construction, energy, services industry, in restaurants, and in hotels. They can't find people, or they're afraid to come in and work because they may or may not have the proper documentation," Treviño said.

We will have more with Cameron County Judge Treviño on the Cameron County economy now with the newly incorporated city of Starbase.

That's this weekend on Inside Valley Politics.
