MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — City leaders and community members gathered at the McAllen Convention Center on Wednesday to announce the 2025 Border Texan of the Year.
The Border Texan of the Year Award celebrates leaders who have left a lasting impact on the Rio Grande Valley through leadership and service.
This year, the award went to two people, Jim and Kathy Collins.
The duo have supported educational and economic causes in South Texas.
"This means a great deal, especially because it's given by the people who live and work in our area," Jim said.
"It's a very humbling experience and I'm filled with gratitude," Kathy said.
