MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Cities of McAllen and Edinburg, along with the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (RGVMPO), held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday for the Jackson Hike & Bike Trail Phase II.
Located at the intersection of Col. Rowe Blvd. (2nd St.) and Auburn Ave. (Wisconsin Rd.), the trail is set to provide connectivity between McAllen and Edinburg's hiking and biking network of trails, linking both communities.
"I encourage folks to use it. It's a great, safe way to utilize the transportation here," said Mayor Ramiro Garza, City of Edinburg. "I call it transportation because that's what this is. It's a way for people to get around on their bikes while avoiding the roads. You can use this trail safely and get some exercise in, which I think is important for living a healthy lifestyle."
Officials celebrated the 1.5-mile, 10-foot-wide Hike & Bike Trail, a brand-new addition to both communities that promises to enhance connectivity and recreational experiences for residents and visitors alike.
