Investigation underway after body washes ashore at South Padre Island

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — An investigation is underway after the body of a 75-year-old woman washed ashore Tuesday, according to the Cameron County Park Ranger Division.

At approximately 4:53 p.m., Cameron County Park Rangers responded to a quarter mile north of county beach access #6.

The body of a woman, later identified as Kathleen Lundy, was recovered from the water and taken to the South Padre Island Fire Department, where she was pronounced dead by a justice of the peace.

According to the news release, Lundy's sister said Kathleen had gone out for a swim before the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
