HARLINGEN — Eduardo Garcia, a Mechatronics Technology student at Texas State Technical College’s Harlingen campus, recently began an internship with HGG Profiling Equipment Inc. in Houston.

According to HGG Profiling Equipment’s website, hgg-group.com, the company designs and builds 3D profiling machines for a manufacturing process that uses advanced technology to cut three-dimensional forms on metal pipes, beams and other steel profiles.

Garcia, who is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree, said the internship offers hands-on experience that reinforces his training at TSTC.

“As a junior field service engineer intern, I provide remote service calls for a client and help them find a solution regarding the company’s equipment,” he said.

Seth Ulrich is a general manager at HGG Profiling Equipment.

“Eduardo asks the right questions to be prepared for a day in the field,” he said. “Our senior technicians find him easy to guide. We are excited for him to join us after the completion of his internship.”

Garcia said the internship has taught him the importance of communication on the job.

“When I’m with my colleagues on the production floor, we have to communicate effectively because the machines are loud and the workers have to maintain production.”

Carlos Reyes, TSTC’s Mechatronics Technology program team lead, said the program and Garcia’s internship are preparing Garcia for a promising career.

“Eduardo’s focused approach has been key to his development as a skilled technician,” he said. “His work ethic and blend of technical abilities will make him a valuable asset to any employer.”

According to onetonline.org, electrical and electronic engineering technologists and technicians earn an average of $64,220 a year in Texas. The website projected that there would be a 14% increase in the number of such jobs in the state from 2020 to 2030.

Registration continues for the spring semester at TSTC. To learn more, go to tstc.edu.
