MCALLEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of McAllen advises residents and visitors of increased bee activity in the area.

Bee swarm season is coming to a close across Texas, and McAllen leaders are sharing a reminder on safe practices and how to coexist safely.

Swarming

Swarming is normal and typically harmless unless bees are provoked. Most swarms rest temporarily on trees before moving on.

Sealing

The City of McAllen Health and Code Department advises not to seal cracks or crevices if bees are present, as this can trap them inside structures.

Respect the bees

The city advises the community to stay calm around bee hives and avoid disturbing bees.

Report bee activity

To report bee activity, the city's Environment and Health Code Department can be reached at (956) 681-1900.

Emergency services

Bees can be aggressive when defending their colony. If stung and experiencing a reaction, seek medical help or call 911.

"Bees play a crucial role in our environment, and we must take the necessary precautions to live alongside them safely," said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. "By being aware and taking the proper steps, we can protect both our community and these vital pollinators."
